Shop Hop!

Just a reminder that the Wasatch Front Shop Hop starts today!

The Shop Hop runs from June 15-June 18. We will have extended hours W-F open from 10:00 am-8:00pm. Saturday we will be open from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

All the stores in the Shop Hop have picked books as a theme for their shop - ours is Anne of Green Gables. We will have games, prizes, lots of sales, and treats. (But we promise no red currant wine!) Come in and see our new fabric as well as for sales on kits, regularly priced fabric and clearance.

Saturday Sampler and Summer Class Schedule

We are ready to begin sign-ups for our next round of our Block of the Month, also known as Saturday Sampler. It's hard to believe that this is our 7th year! As always the quilt is a mystery quilt, but we can tell you that the theme for the coming year is Halloween.

Here's the details: Signups begin May 2 and end June 3. The cost will be $40. The first class day will be the second Saturday of July. New blocks will be available on the second Saturday of each month through June 2012. We will have a free class that day every half hour starting at 9:15 AM and ending at 12:45. Each month's block is free as long as you pick it up in person on the second Saturday AND have last month's block completed. If these requirements are not met, there will be a small charge of $5 to get you next block.

This is a sample of the color palette for the upcoming quilt. Once again, we're excited for the year ahead!

In other news, our summer Class Schedule will be available at the store by May 2 as well as our discount coupons for the next 4 months.

For the next month at American Quilting we will be holding a Charity Fundraiser for the Paul Peterson Cancer Fund. Each Monday November 5th - December 30th we will have 8 quilts up for silent auction. Bids will start at 10:00 am Monday morning and end Saturday night at 6:00. 100% of the proceeds will go to the Paul Peterson Cancer Fund. Donations will also be accepted at American Quilting or at Mountain American Credit Union.

Fall Frenzy! Wasatch Front Shop Hop

Come visit us this weekend! We are participating in the Wasatch Front Shop Hop Fall Frenzy. We've got all of our Halloween and Fall fabrics marked down 25%. Christmas fabrics are 10% off.

Fall is here! And so is our new Class Schedule. We have some of our continuing groups available including Amy's Cupboard - this group meets once a month to share goodies, patterns and quilts from the 1930's, Love Letters - a Civil War group and The Farmer's Wife. Each group costs $5 each month and you can come one month or many.

Other classes include Wool Stitchery, Paper Piecing, Applique, Beginning Piecing, English Paper Piecing, Buggy Barn, Purses, Flower Power and Binding.

If you sign up for classes before Sept 11, you can still get our Buy One Get One Half-Off special.

Other events include our Fall Frenzy from October 13-16 where you can find treats, specials and a free pattern for a Holiday project.

November 5 from 7:00-10:00 is our 3rd annual Moonlight Madness. This is our Christmas kick-off party. Once again we will spotlight several guest designers, demo holiday gift ideas and have prizes and treats!

Christmas Advent Calendar

Finished size is approximately 28" x 37"

This Christmas Advent Calendar we recently did a post on and then we realized that we forgot the larger version.

Both sizes are included in the pattern.

This is the twelve days before Christmas size.

Finished size is approximately 32" x 40"

This larger size has 24 pockets to hold 24 ornaments so you can place one ornament on the tree up until Christmas Day.

Mindy and I drew up the pattern for the ornaments in July. Then Mindy stitched fast and furiously to get the advent calendars done for market in October. They are really cute advents using cotton and felted wool accents. The tree, ornaments and the tabs are all finished off with wool. They are all really traditional so you can enjoy them for years to come.

We will not be making kits for the advents. We do have the wool that you can purchase for the tree, tabs etc in the shop. That way you can mix and match the colors of wool depending on your cottons that you are using for your backgrounds and pockets.

Pumpkin Muffins!

This is one of my favorite fall recipes. My kids love these and the recipe makes two pans of muffins. I do one pan of mini muffins, with mini chocolate chips. Then I add regular chips and put the rest of the batter into the regular sized muffin cups. I probably shouldn't tell you this, but my family will usually eat the entire recipe in a day. They are great warmed in the micro for 10 seconds, just to melt the chips again. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Muffins

3 c. flour
1 c. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. milk
1 c. pumpkin
1/2 c. butter/margerine melted (I use 1/4 c. butter and 1/4 c. applesause)
2 eggs
semi-sweat chocolate chips (mini and regular chips)

Combine dry ingredients in a bowl. In a seperate bowl, combine milk, butter (and applesause), eggs, and pumpkin. Pour the wet on top of the dry and combine just until moisened. Stir in chocolate chips. (I put just mini chips in at first and fill my mini muffin tin, then do the regular size.) You can add as much chocolate as you want. Put into greased muffin cups.

Bake at 400 degrees for 8-10 min. for mini muffins, and 15-20 for regular sized muffins.

Makes 24 muffins.

Sneak Peek

I am going to quilt market tomorrow. I will make sure to take pictures while I am at market. I have a booth to sell my Under the Garden Moon patterns. I also get to shop shop shop for American Quilting. I like to see all the new patterns, trends, and fabrics that are coming so I can keep current on all the new things. Wish me luck! This is a new wool wall hanging. No faces as of yet. I promise to get it done before I fly off to International Quilt Market in Houston. It is going to be really cute!

This corner is dedicated to our current seasonal fabrics. We carry patterns and kits for the quilts that we hang throughout the store. Let me know if you see a quilt you like, We can totally hook you up.

I also design patterns. The name of my patterns are "Under the Garden Moon". The Seasonal wall hangings on the right side by the clock are called "As Time Goes By". There are 12 separate mini wool quilts you can change monthly. They are attached to a cotton background quilt. If you want to view all of my patterns you can also click on the link on the side bar.

This is our 30's kids corner.
We carry juvenile prints and a lot of reproduction fabrics, too.
I love vintage fabrics.

Amy's Cupboard Club

From time to time I will be posting pictures from the new group that Amy started at her quilt shop called Amy's Cupboard Club. Here are a few pictures from our first meeting. I'm hoping I got everyone's names right as I tried to take notes as I took pictures.

Now for Show N' Tell. . .

This is Ashley showing us her Husband's Great Aunt's YoYo Quilt. It's a Kingsize quilt. I can't even begin to think about making all of those yoyo's. It's pretty amazing closeup. I wonder how many yoyo's it took to make this quilt. I counted 81 yoyo's per square (inside the green borders). Okay, I started to count them and there are 7 blocks across by 5 rows down. So that's 35 yoyo sections of 81 x 35 = 2,835 yoyo's not including the green yoyo's. Maybe I'll have to count those later.

This is Verlene's Thrift Store Find. Can you believe how pretty this Grandmother's Flower Garden is?

This is Debbie's husband's Grandma Daisy's quilt. I love how it's hand pieced and if you look close you'll see how even some of the pieces are pieced. She really used every scrap of fabric that she had available to her.

Deanna's Grandmother's Aprons

This is Elizabeth, Amy's Mother (Amy's Mom) showing us the quilt that she just finished not too long ago. I love the applique and how she set the blocks in the quilt.

Garden Party

After a seven day battle, I came out victorious! Hurray. I now know what projects remain unfinished, where they are and what to tackle first. It helps to throw out the things we no longer need or want.

It is all organized and all my paperwork is now in binders.

Well, it's been a week and I wanted to show you some projects but who can create in such chaos? So I decided to start from the bottom and reorganize my sewing space. It definitely looks like a bomb went off in my craft room. It's time to dig out of the bomb shelter and I have pictures to prove it!!! LOL! Wish me luck...

This is my sewing table where I sit and push the pedal to the metal.
